Dunfermline Athletic won the Fife Cup and the Fife 2nd XI Cup in the year 1887. Rolland, it seems, was mostly a reserve player and did not feature in either the first or second round teams in the Fife Cup. He also didn`t play in the semi-final first match against Lassodie which was abandoned due to fighting, but he did play in the second attempt, played at Kingseat, which Dunfermline won 5-1 with Rolland scoring a hat-trick.

The final, against Burntisland Thistle, took 36 days and three matches to settle but, following a near-riot, protests and two replays, Dunfermline Athletic brought their first trophy back to East End Park.

The team that won 3-1 at Crawford’s Park, Cowdenbeath consisted of: Farquharson; Lamond, Ross; Campbell, Dewar, Westwood (captain); Sandilands, Toddie, Rolland, Bathgate and Nicol.
