Season 2018-2019
[TITLE]

11 home League defeats and only 5 wins tells its own story. The top scorer was centre half Lee Ashcroft with 8 goals.
The previous season had been a big disappointment, making the promotion play offs but falling at the first hurdle to Dundee United. There followed a big clear out of players. Callum Morris and Declan McManus both departed to Ross County, top scorer Nicky Clark opted for Dundee United. There was disappointment when neither Joe Cardle nor Jason Talbot were offered extensions.

Also leaving were Michael Paton, Jean Yves M`voto, Dean Shiels, Aaron Splaine, Nat Wedderburn, Fraser Aird and Danny Armstrong. Fringe players Scott Lochhead and Conner Duthie also departed. Incoming were the Longridge brothers Jackson and Louis, Danny Devine, Joe Thomson, Myles Hippolyte, Aidan Connolly and the returning (on Loan) Faissal el Bakhtaoui. Youngsters Stuart Morrison, Matty Todd, Paul Allan and Lewis McCann also stepped up.
The season began mid July with the League Cup and a 3-0 win at home to Peterhead. The good start continued with a 1-0 win at Dens Park. Brechin City at Glebe Park were despatched 7-1. The sectional ties were completed with a 3-1 win over Stirling Albion at East End Park.

Into August and the League got under way with an excellent 3-2 win at Tannadice. The first home League match was a huge disappointment as Ross County won by 3-1. Athletic got their Challenge Cup going with a 2-1 win away to Inverness Caley Thistle but lost narrowly 1-0 at home to Hearts to exit the League Cup. Things went pear shaped when Ayr United won 4-1 at Somerset Park. Before the transfer window closed, there was a flurry of activity, with loan signings Aidan Keena, Malaury Martin and Robbie Muirhead.

The Pars remained in a slump, losing 3-0 at home to Inverness Caley Thistle, as September got under way. A trip to England in the Challenge Cup for a first ever encounter with Boreham Wood ended 0-0 but Dunfermline won on penalties. Two more draws followed, 0-0 at home to Alloa and 1-1 at Cappielow, before, at last, another victory, 1-0 at home to Partick Thistle.

October began well with a 2-0 win away to Falkirk but, the following week, Athletic departed the Challenge Cup, at home to Alloa, losing on penalties. The misery continued at home as Queen of the South won 1-0 and Dundee United went one better, winning 2-0. Away form was better and two Aidan Keena goals earned a 2-2 draw in Inverness. November began well with a 1-0 win at Alloa, courtesy of Jackson Longridge, but fell away badly with another home defeat, 1-0 to Falkirk, and a 2-1 defeat in Dingwall.

A first home win since September got December`s fixtures under way with a 3-0 win over Morton, but Partick Thistle brought back the misery with a 2-0 win at Firhill. Two 0-0 bore draws followed, away to Queen of the South and at home to Ayr United, before the year ended gloriously with a 4-2 win at the Falkirk Stadium.

The new year came in with yet another poor home performance in a 2-2 draw with Alloa and the following 1-0 defeat at Tannadice saw Stevie Crawford and Greg Shields invited to take over the management. A quite awful performance in the Cup brought a 3-0 defeat at Starks Park. The new management took decisive action by bringing back Ryan Scully to replace Lee Robinson in goal and managed a 0-0 draw at Cappielow. Ryan Blair and Bruce Anderson were also brought in on loan.

The wretched home form continued with a 2-1 defeat from Ross County but on 16th February, The Pars managed only their third home win in the League by beating Inverness CT 1-0, thanks to Joe Thomson. Suddenly things took off, Ayr United were beaten 1-0 at Somerset Park and Partick Thistle 3-0 at East End Park. March 2nd a visit from Queen of the South and a Ryan Blair goal separated the teams. It was Bruce Anderson`s turn as the points were brought back from Alloa after a 1-0 win. The lousy home form returned with two 1-0 defeats, first to Dundee United, then Ayr United.

Anderson and Beadling got the goals to earn a 2-2 draw at Firhill. Stevie and Greg had saved the team but it was defeats all the way to the end of the season - 5 in all - Ross County (a) 0-1, Falkirk(h) 0-1, Queen of the South (a) 1-2, Morton (h) 0-1 and Inverness CT (a) 0-1. The least said about that dismal catalogue the better.

11 home League defeats and only 5 wins tells its own story. The top scorer was centre half Lee Ashcroft with 8 goals. Appearance wise it was Lee Ashcroft again (44) followed by James Craigen (41), and Jackson Longridge (40). Long term injuries Lewis Martin managed only one game and Sean Murdoch none at all.
